Principal Data Architect · Strategic, Cross-Cutting Data Architecture for Regulated Multi-Domain Platforms
17 years defining and operating strategic, cross-cutting data architecture across an 8-product integrated enterprise platform — 70+ repositories, 27 vessels, 82,666 active records, $226.7M reconciled, 1.4M+ audit-trail entries, 92 production releases with zero data loss. Bureau Veritas classification certified. Canadian PR based in Fredericton, NB — open to Ontario relocation.
Every product in the platform was built from scratch under Alex's engineering leadership. Hover or tap a product node to preview. Click to read the full case study.
In 2009, Alex joined SCG Global — a maritime vessel management company — as its first software engineer, and began building the data architecture of what would become an 8-product integrated enterprise platform. Canonical data models across 8 products. Schema standardization that replaced fragmented local conventions with platform-wide discipline. A data contract codified as a 15-year backward-compatible API that survived 316 migrations without a failure. Multi-database per-tenant sovereignty across 27 vessel instances. A Kafka-based Exchange that decoupled the portfolio before there were 8 products to decouple.
The engineering challenge had a particular shape: commercial vessels operate with intermittent or zero internet connectivity, are subject to Port State Control inspection, and cannot afford operational downtime. Every architectural decision reflected those constraints — offline-first replication, AES-256-CBC cross-runtime encryption before legal review asked for it, legal-grade audit trails (1.4M+ financial entries, 2.9M PaperTrail crew events) years before Bureau Veritas auditors asked to see them. Maritime's regulated-industry discipline maps directly to HIPAA, FHIR, USCDI, and PHI / PII governance — the pattern language transfers; healthcare-specific vocabulary is a 30-day ramp target.
For 17 years Alex has built and owned the data architecture of the platform. The role titles changed — Senior Developer, Director of Engineering, Chief Technology Officer. The work — strategic, cross-cutting data architecture — didn't. A 12-engineer team delivered scope comparable to competitor platforms running 40+; a three-year succession arc resolved the single-threaded-custodian pattern, and the platform now operates without him as a bottleneck. In 2022, Alex directed a complete infrastructure relocation from on-premise Ukraine to AWS during active wartime operations — Starlink and backup power across the team, 100% operational continuity, zero data loss.
Alex is a Permanent Resident of Canada, based in Fredericton, NB, and is open to Ontario relocation for the right role.

Every technology listed here is evidenced across one or more production codebases. The breadth reflects building 8 products over 17 years — not a keyword list.
Based in Fredericton, NB, Canada. Canadian Permanent Resident. Available immediately for Principal Data Architect, Staff Data Architect, and Principal Engineering Lead roles — open to Ontario relocation for the right role; remote within Canada also works.
17 years of strategic, cross-cutting data architecture, regulated-industry delivery, and AI / GenAI enablement.
Note on confidentiality: The platform and metrics presented here are shared with Alex's authorisation. Vessel names, specific client details, and internal operational data are deliberately generalised. All metrics are production-verified as of March 2026. Fleet vessels are publicly registered under IMO Company ID 5033921 and independently verifiable via Equasis or MarineTraffic.
